Still, fans are eager to get their hands on one, with one social media user even posting:Can someone tell me how I can get a @SnoopDogg Olympic pin? It’s freaking LEGENDARY!’.

New Collectibles From a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Hot Toys has unveiled highly detailed figures of two iconic villains – General Grievous from Revenge of the Sith and Darth Vader from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The Darth Vader figure, available in a Deluxe Edition, features Hayden Christensen’s charred face, an interchangeable cape and a light-up lightsaber, with Anakin’s damaged suit visible underneath. Grievous comes with four lightsabers, battle-damaged parts and a custom display case. With The Acolyte wrapping up and Skeleton Crew arriving this Christmas, there’s plenty to look forward to in the Star Wars universe and ever-increasing potential: For example, Princess Leia’s Star Wars gold bikini just fetched a staggering $175,000 at auction.

Ferrari Legend Takes the (Auction) Wheel: The first-ever 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, hailed by RM Sotheby’s as ‘the finest, most important’ of its kind, is up for bids. This beauty dazzled at the 1960 Geneva Motor Show and boasts a competition-spec engine with around 280 horsepower. In classic Grigio over black leather, it even made a cameo in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and shares a connection with Hollywood legend James Coburn. With Ferrari Classiche certification and a unique dashboard layout, this rare gem could fetch anything up to $16 to 18 million. The auction will take place from 15th to 17th of August.

What’s Up (and Down)

👍 Millennials Gotta Catch ‘Em All: Millennials are driving a Pokémon card boom, turning the once-sleepy market into a global sensation, according to collectibles grading experts. The pandemic sparked a trading frenzy, skyrocketing card prices by nearly 500%. Although the initial craze has cooled, Pokémon cards now dominate the collectibles world, representing a third of grading company PSA’s volume. From 6 million Pokémon cards graded in 2023 alone to nostalgic millennials fueling demand, the market has evolved dramatically. With Pokémon’s ongoing appeal and new generations catching the card craze, it looks like this trend is here to stay.

The current development of the Pokémon card market really shows how deeply rooted childhood memories and lasting excitement can drive up the value of collectibles. As people chase after those nostalgic hits from their past and new fans get hooked, the demand stays high. This steady interest keeps the market relevant and pushes up card prices, proving just how much these memories can shape the value of real world assets.

👎 Celebrity Memorabilia Sparks Controversy (Yet Again): A highly anticipated auction featuring 76 supposed hand-drawn pieces by Michael Jackson is stirring up controversy. The King of Pop’s estate is getting involved, claiming the works aren’t legit. Despite the auction house’s plans for a Saturday sale, the estate’s rep told Billboard they’re not convinced MJ created these pieces. ‘We’ve seen them before and have serious doubts,’ they say, pointing out the lack of solid proof. The collection includes sketches of MLK, presidents, Disney characters and pop icons – all signed by Jackson.

The controversy surrounding Michael Jackson’s alleged artwork highlights the inherent challenges in authenticating celebrity memorabilia, where value hinges on provenance and verifiable evidence. The reluctance of King’s Auction House to provide solid documentation raises significant concerns. This situation emphasises the critical need for strong provenance and reliable proof, such as expert validation, to safeguard collectors and uphold the integrity of celebrity legacies.
